Our customer is a global power leader and a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. It serves customers in approximately 190 countries and territories through a network of more than 600 company-owned and independent distributor locations and approximately 6,500 dealer locations.
With a vast business expanse, it is imperative for our customer that they have an efficient mechanism to cope with and adapt to challenges arising from IT technology transitions and attrition of key resources engaged in IT functions. Their presence in over 120 countries, coupled with enterprise applications with diversified localization requirements, warranted a mechanism to bring forth good amount of content standardization.
The customer wanted its enterprise applications to be process oriented and people independent. This realization gave rise to a thought of having a technology agnostic tool that can cater to their Knowledge Management needs. They needed a technology that would be simple, smooth to operate and easily available whenever needed. Obviously the mandate was clearly in favour of Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK). Earlier, the customer through its various business units, made attempts to integrate and document IT processes & training contents using UPK. These efforts delivered some results but there still remained a gap from uniformity, standardization and overall governance perspective. Thus they thought of having a full-fledged Centre of Excellence (CoE) for UPK and partnered with Birlasoft in order to give required shape to its vision of UPK CoE.
Oracle UPK is an easy-to-use and comprehensive content development, deployment, and maintenance platform for increasing project, program, and user productivity. With Oracle UPK, project teams can mitigate risks through all the phases of any project lifecycle, dramatically reduce the time to deployment, and ensure end user adoption.
Birlasoft implemented Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK) solutions for consolidation and standardization for simulation based training contents for the customer. We delivered this project in two phases.
In the first phase, Birlasoft delivered three key objectives:
Through the second phase, Birlasoft enabled In Application support feature for some of the customer programs. Subsequently Birlasoft jointly worked on the UPK architecture to make UPK Knowledge Center available over internet for users outside customer network. The next step was integration of the UPK environment with customer's Learning Management System (LMS).
