Our customer is a global corporation of complementary business unit which designs, manufactures, distributes and services engines and related technologies through a network of company owned facilities as well as independent distributor and dealer locations.

Business Challenges

The vast and global business expanse of our customer warrants an efficient supply chain model. With this goal, the customer has embarked on a major initiative to build an agile, flexible, responsive system to provide greater visibility into Global Trade Management/ Supply Chain Execution. The customer wants to integrate and streamline all the aspects of its supply chain to improve productivity and efficiency. To achieve this, they wanted a reliable partner with a global footprint who could help them standardize and automate their processes across the globe. Some of their key requirements were:

  • Rule based automation of product classifications
  • HS classification approval and denial authority based on global and local roles

The customer approached Birlasoft to help them achieve their vision of devising and implementing a strategic solution which would minimize customs and export controls risks and costs globally.

Birlasoft analyzed the key requirements of the customer and inferred that Oracle Global Trade Management (GTM) solution combined with Global Trade Compliance module would serve the purpose and fulfill the requirements of the customer. The Oracle GTM solution would enable the customer to:

  • Maximize duty relief entitlement and attainment
  • Manage global processes
  • Improve country specific capabilities and processes
  • Optimize the global systems solution

  • Configured and implemented Oracle GTM as the global trade management platform, with consideration given to the future extension of this platform for TMS

Way Forward

Through the remaining two phases of this project, Birlasoft plans to deliver as follows:

Phase II: Extend Current Solution to Multiple Business units

  • Classification of items, RPLS and STS for remaining plants.
  • Interface item classifications, RPLS & STS statuses to plant trade management systems.

Phase III: Near-Real Time Transaction Monitoring

  • Implement capabilities to audit customer order transactions for trade compliance adherence near-real time
  • Implement license management
  • Design solutions for country specific requirements
