Dubai, UAE and Pune, India, November 29, 2017 : Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and KPIT Technologies (BSE: 532400; NSE: KPIT) announced the implementation of an innovative, IoT based system that tracks thousands of expensive assets available for rent at the region's largest venue for exhibitions, conferences and events.
DWTC hosts over 500 events annually, welcoming more than three million visitors. The venue spans 1.3 million feet of exhibition space, 21 halls, and more than 40 meeting rooms. High tech assets such as LED monitors and audio equipment must be moved constantly to accommodate the needs of the event organizers.
DWTC partnered with KPIT to design and implement a state-of-the-art asset tracking solution to manage the assets in real-time. The system had to be cloud-based and integrate with on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite ERP services. It would need to collect sensor data and use that data in a way that enabled DWTC employees to be more productive and efficient. The way assets are managed plays a critical role in delivering the outstanding customer experience DWTC is known for. “In KPIT, we found a systems integrator with the right level of expertise for the diversified architecture we required,” said Muhammad Asif, Director-IT Applications, Dubai World Trade Centre.
The system, which includes Microsoft Azure IoT services, eliminates errors arising from manual systems where employees previously had to enter serial numbers; it provides complete insights into availability of assets with advanced data analytics capability. This makes it easier to make decisions and reduces costs because equipment is tracked from the time the rental contract is signed and throughout the event. Information is recorded in the ERP and provides alerts if equipment is moved to an unauthorized location.
Probodh Chiplunkar, Head of Digital Business at KPIT Technologies said. “The objective of this project was to raise the level of customer experience using the latest technology to track costly assets. Employees needed to be able to easily know where equipment is, and to make sure it is always where it should be. We also wanted to build a platform for IoT that we can continue to build on. We are pleased to say these objectives were accomplished.”
