Customer Overview
The customer is a US based leading energy provider of mineral-based and material solution with ~3000 employees, operating across US and Canada. The organization was carved out from its parent entity and later merged with another entity. Birlasoft enabled the IT separation of the energy company from its parent entity.
Business Challenges
The organization needed multifaceted IT transformation during its separation from a larger parent entity. One of the primary challenges was the seamless detachment of shared IT assets, including data center assets, Active Directory domains, and M365 services, without disrupting business operations or compromising compliance. Establishing a secure and compliant transition was another challenge. Modernizing identity and collaboration services involved migrating domain users and updating M365 services such as Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, while maintaining federated access and voice routing policies.
Cybersecurity enablement was another key focus, involving the deployment of multiple leading security tools, configuring email protection policies, and implementing tenant-level access controls. The project demanded meticulous coordination across business units, application owners, and OEM vendors to ensure timely execution and minimal disruption.

The Solution
A comprehensive IT transformation strategy was implemented to address the challenges. This included the setup of a secure Azure landing zone, migration of workloads and domain users, setting up of M365 tenant and migration of M365 users, migration of SharePoint Online content and SD WAN deployment across 11 locations. The servers were migrated from parent data center to a new colocation. Domain controllers were setup in the colo DC and Azure and Network connectivity was established between them.
Advanced cybersecurity tools (CrowdStrike, Proofpoint, Tenable, Knowbe4, MS Entra ID) were deployed to enhance the security posture of both cloud and on-premises environments. Business continuity and compliance was maintained throughout the transformation process.
