Customer Overview
A North American manufacturer of household and auto care consumer products initiated the divestiture of its Auto Care division, which included around 300 employees across the USA and Canada. The objective was to carve out and establish a standalone IT environment for the Auto division to enable a smooth transition and future integration with a new parent company.
Business Challenges
The separation had to be executed within a short timeframe and involved complex disentanglement of applications, infrastructure, and data across 12 sites. The IT systems of the Auto division were deeply integrated with the parent organization, requiring the creation of a new Active Directory, Azure tenant, and Office 365 environment. Additionally, several critical applications needed to be migrated, and a new telephony system had to be implemented.
The Solution
Birlasoft implemented a phased IT separation strategy that included setting up a new Azure tenant and landing zone for hosting Windows VMs and AiX servers using Skytap for JDE migration. All existing VMs were migrated from on-premises and the existing Azure tenant to the new environment. A new Azure Active Directory and Office 365 setup was deployed to support authentication, messaging, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams, with all users successfully migrated.
The network infrastructure for all 12 sites was separated, and a new telephony system was implemented using an on-premises Cisco CUCM platform. All desktops were re-imaged, and infrastructure support was provided during the application migration phase. Birlasoft managed the entire IT estate until the handover to the acquiring company.
